Japan Festival Byron Bay is an annual festival to introduce a unique Japanese cultural experiences for understanding of diversitythrough the food stalls, Taiko drumming and music, traditional dance performance, also markets of kimono, craft and workshops.
Not only stage performances and market but visitors will be able to engage in Japanese traditions through the workshops.

Japan Festival Byron Bay 2017


The inaugural Japan Festival Byron Bay located on Main Beach Byron Bay and the Byron Bay Surf Club.
The festival idea started from Japanese language and cultural workshops volunteer activities run by Japanese parents in local schools since 2012, sessions were so popular with children and teachers, the idea of having a bigger scale festival was a perfect chance to provide a Japanese cultural experience for Byron Bay locals. 




 

Byron Harmony Festival 2018

Dress in traditionally-styled brightly-colored kimono,
We parade through the Markets and Festival streets playing various instruments including Taiko drum, Bamboo flute, Japanese banjo Sanshin, traditional Japanese instruments.
On 2018, Japanese Performars Byron Bay had a folk music roving/parade on Byron Harmony Day.
On the Japanese stage performance, success to invite Simon Vanyai from Taiko-on Perth to improvise with local Taiko drummers.

Japan Festival Byron Bay 2019 featured 22 program contens of Japanese performances includes Martial Arts, Mikoshi, Chanting, Dances, Taiko, Live music.
45 Market stalls of 15 workshop stalls 8 game stalls 22 craft stalls for merchandise
15 Food stalls not only Sushi but fabulous foods, and Japanese sweets you never seen before.

Under the pandemic, Japan Festival Byron Bay acheved digital concert surported by Create NSW
As the world is changing with the ubiquitous spread of digital communication accelerated by pandemic, giving rise to new mediums for bringing people together across the world, new ways of communicating and sharing art practices. Thanks to Create NSWfor giving this opportunity for Youth Taiko Drummers who can play with Japanese Top Artists in one song clip together!
Taiko drumming is a form of music and physical exercise for discipline of both body and mind. Most work is done by the core movement. The mental and physical discipline involved in its practice encourages maintenance of a healthy lifestyle and promotes positive physical and mindful social connections, especially valuable in the current COVID-19 situation.
